Splinter Reeds Concept Map.
Problem.
Create a wayfinding map for a Splinter Reeds concert that utilizes the company mark/symbol you created for them.
Solution.
Initially, when I approached this project/problem I conceptualized a map that was 2 dimensional. However, I ended up not liking the layout of it, and I didn’t like how the buildings were turning out. So I decided to make a more 3-dimensional map. This allowed me to focus on the school a bit more to show only the most important buildings and with that came the extra room to draw the buildings out pretty close to how they look in person so that looking at the map you could somewhat tell in person if you were looking at the same building. Once I got all the buildings laid out, I focused on making it read the easiest way possible. I chose to make the streets and insignificant buildings neutral colors in grey and white, and for the buildings that were significant (containing a concert hall), I chose to make those buildings a red color to stand out from the neutral background. Then for all the various parking locations for cars and bikes, I made all of those buildings/locations blue to be contrasted against the red and also stayed with what people are used to. With utilizing my symbol I decided that it didn't look quite right in its original colored form, so I took out the color and just watermarked it in the bottom right of the map. I then utilized the color scheme of the symbol to mark the recital halls and create the key for the map, therefore, keeping the color branding while changing the symbol in order to fit the aesthetic of the map.
